A Vision for the Future

Annenberg School for Communication

Michael X. Delli Carpini, PhD
Walter H. Annenberg Dean
Professor of Communication

Since its founding, the Annenberg School’s research and teaching mission has centered on improving our understanding of the role of various media in public life. Its faculty and students address important communication issues ranging from the global (such as the Center for Global Communication’s ongoing programs for strengthening media institutions in Afghanistan, Iran, Jordan, and Bosnia), to the national (such as the Annenberg Public Policy Center’s presidential election survey), to the local (such as the Center of Excellence in Cancer Communication Research’s help in developing an anti-smoking public awareness campaign currently being used by the City of Philadelphia).

In the 50 years since its founding, the Annenberg School has remained at the forefront of media studies even as media have continually transformed. The School devotes itself to furthering the understanding of the role of communication in public life through education, research, and policy studies.
