As we begin to celebrate the successes of Penn’s Making History Campaign, 693 alumni, parents, and friends returned to campus in recognition of the many volunteers who gave so much of their time to the University and to the Campaign. Their dedication elevates our programs and our institution.
The annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner, held this year on March 2 in Houston Hall, serves to thank our Penn volunteers for the time, talent, and tireless energy they’ve selflessly given to the University over the preceding year. These volunteers support all areas of Penn, playing a vital role in everything from events to recruitment. The increased engagement of alumni, parents, and friends not only played a role in the success of the Making History Campaign and Penn, it was a goal in itself.

Seven years ago, Penn kicked off Making History, one of the largest fundraising campaigns in American higher education. The goal was ambitious: $3.5 billion. Even more ambitious was the vision: to raise Penn from excellence to eminence.
Making History reached its financial target 16 months ago, more than a year before its end date. But the momentum was strong, donors were enthusiastic, and the fundraising continued through December 31, 2012. The final Campaign tally will be announced February 28, and on April 19 the University community will celebrate the success of this remarkable effort at Penn Park.
